What Your Wedding Photographer Wishes You Knew

Most wedding photographers are successful because they CARE so damn much. With that comes this fine balance between business and passion. We LOVE what we do, We LOVE our clients, but we also LOVE our families, weekends and time off. Here are 5 things I want all of my clients to know when they book me:

I’m Human

Behind this business, it’s just me. Sitting at my computer or desk or sometimes on my phone. I’m the one pouring over your emails, replying to you directly from my heart, spending hours planning your sessions, making sure everything little thing is perfect for YOU. Posting on social media, replying to comments and DM’s, sharing your story as beautifully as possible. Shooting, days of editing, crafting that email to send to you to deliver your final gallery.Anxiously waiting for you to view your photos and send me some sort of lifeline that you loved them. It’s just me. A girl who cares A WHOLE TON about her clients who are the ones who allow her to get to do this job she loves and create beautiful and meaningful work.

I do my best to reply promptly, edit quickly, say the right things, make you feel so damn loved but at the end of the day- I juggle a lot. Know that you are so important to me and I’m just a human over here!

What’s important to you is important to me

As a photographer, sure- I have the things that are important to me to do the job I want to do for you. Great lighting, enough time, etc. But at the end of the day, what is important to you is going to be the priority of my list. If you place a ton of value on something, I want to know about it. If there are people you are getting together for the first time in 20 years, tell me. I love knowing all of the most important things to you on your day because those are the things you’re going to want to remember. I want to be the one to help you remember it all.

There’s more to this than just clicking a button

You are hiring me because I am a professional in what I do. I’m an expert. I have years and years and hundreds of weddings of experience. I have countless hours and shoot conditions and stories to account for it. Between the emails I draft, contracts I send, ways I stay connected with my clients- there’s a lot that happens that you don’t see too. And it’s ALL to craft an amazing wedding photographer EXPERIENCE with you from start to finish.

My prices aren’t based on our shoot time

My prices are set based on a ton of factors that are what I need to continue to live and run this business how I do. From having updated camera gear ($2000-$5000/each item) to taxes to software subscriptions that make your experience better, to time spend location scouting, emailing, session planning, driving and editing.

There is a lot of things I take too personally

From being ghosted in inquiries to not receiving a reply back after sharing a gallery- there are so many areas of this business that I take way too personally. Again, it’s because I CARE SO MUCH. It’s something I’m working on but I also am not sure if I can help it. Remember, I’m human and behind this business, it’s just little old me. As photographers we pour so much into our businesses and our clients that it can be hard to remove ourselves from being so invested in each one of you! Trust us, it’s something we’ll forever be working on. But just know, it’s because we CARE.

My availability is different than my days off

One thing that I struggle with in this business is taking days off. I aim to please! I want to be available as much as possible for my clients, especially when I know there on any form of a timeline. However, a line I have to draw is setting days off and sticking to them. I normally pick only a few days off a month (and then literally black sharpie these out of my calendar so I can’t do anything with them) These are for both my sanity but also my creativity with your photos. I want to be fired up and energized for my time with you and I need days off in order to be the absolute best version of myself FOR YOU. Please know that if you inquired about a date and I wasn’t available and you see me enjoying time off, it’s not because I didn’t want to photograph you that day but it’s because that was one of my few scheduled days off that month.
