This is my second time getting lucky enough to photograph these two. We did a snowy engagement session last winter (seriously- if you missed it, check it here) that was AMAZING, so I knew when Kat reached out to me about another session in the sun, it was about to be GOOD. I was also super pumped because they wanted to include their furbabe and for those who know me, you know how much I love pups! We headed out toward Mt. Rainier at sunset. This location is one of my favorites but the timing can be tricky, there is about a 30 minute window when the lighting is PERFECT and you don’t want to drive all that way and miss it. Their wedding was only a few weeks away from this and I loved having this last minute shoot with them before they got married to have adventure and just have some time together before the big day. Sharing their wedding REAL SOON so stay tuned for that!
I'm back with J+T for the second half of their engagement session. If you missed part 1, you can see it here. The second half of the shoot was mostly us just sitting on top of a mountain waiting for the sun to go down. There are definitely times in a shoot when we get a to a location, and I need to kill some time to get that golden light I love. The best part about this is we are able to sit down for a little bit and just talk and get to know each other, pop some champagne or have some snacks, and relax. This location is unique because it is literally a 360 view of mountains, there is not much shade or cover from the sun until it starts to go down a bit. And then there is a window of about 10 minutes where the sun is literally kissing the top of the some distant mountains and the lighting is so perfect, that's the 10 minutes I always want. Similar to on a wedding day, I will try to steal you away for those last few minutes of sunlight n the day, and this engagement shoot is a PRIME example of WHY I WNAT THAT. The warmth and colors you can get from a sunset are stunning. Scroll down towards the bottom of this post to see more of that sunset and the magic it creates!
Jaki and Trevor's engagement photos were taken near Mt. Rainier, not far from where we all grew up. I met Jaki in high school and one of the best things about this job and is getting to stay in touch with long time friends like this. She hasn't changed a bit; still big hearted, gorgeous, and always laughing. Seeing her with Trevor, it all made sense. He's genuine, and adventurous, and makes Jaki laugh. It's perfect. We decided to head out to a local hiking trail and check it out. We actually saw a BEAR in the middle of the road on our way up, after that it was mostly just rabbits. The views here were unreal, and because of that we had a lot of time to kill before the sun got low enough to really get the best photos of that spot. So we spent a lot of time walking around, talking, exploring, and they even brought a small picnic backpack with champagne to celebrate. We shot until 9pm or so and it was seriously an awesome way to end a Sunday! More of this session to come!
